Sickness is my weakness. Gene Anderson with Oliver Anderson, Jr alias "the Computer People Communicaters" show how funky music can be in the 80s. Jammin', weired effects, foolish vocals, some taste of p-funk, electric. Guitarsolo by Eddie "the Gigolo" Fisher, known as great jazz componist. In general the whole track really doesn't make sense to me and isn't on top of the ladder, but i like it somehow.

Ifa Big Boy - Rockin' the Night

This is an underrated 80's record to me. First i did't like the hard snare, but the more i've listen to the track got used to it. Moreover, now it can't think about another snare that would fit there! :) Great, the drumming speaks for 1985. Rappers like Captain Rock worked well with it on NIA-Releases, too.

Track A: Piano-laden with some solos, sexy female vocal with backround male vocal which seems to have difficulties, whole track could/should stop at minute 5 but doesn't.
B-Side: the Dub-Version is becoming heavy trippy, could go longer.

Der Stuttgarter Michel Baumann alias Jackmate a.k.a. Soulphiction kann auf eine lange Karriere als DJ und stilbildender Produzent zurückblicken. Schon als Kind absorbierte er die Musik, die von den amerikanischen GI's in den 60ern und 70er Jahren in die Motorstadt gebracht wurde. 1973 legte er sich seine erste Schallplatte zu und ein Jahr später seinen ersten Plattenspieler. Seine Mutter brachte ihn als 12-jährigen zu Psychedelic und Soul, anschließend führte seine Entwicklung zu Funk und Rare Grooves.
Schon im Jahre 1985 begann er als DJ mit Breakbeats und Hip-Hop zu experimentieren. Nach langer Expertise des Rap Sounds wurde er dann Anfang der 90er von der geraden Bassdrum im Sinne der Housemusik aus Chicago und New York gefasst. All diese Einflüsse führten schließlich 1995 zum ersten Release unter seinem weitbekannten Alias Jackmate.
Jackmate produziert Druck, aber nicht das maschinelle "in order to dance"-Moment von Techno, eher so wie wenn man geschubst wird. Aber es ist keine Kraft, die einen zu Fall bringt, sondern eine, die man sofort aufnehmen kann. Genau diese Fähigkeit stellt er auch seit 2000 auf seinem eigenen Imprint Philpot mit anderen Künstlern unter Beweis. Weitere Produktionen auf Labels wie Playhouse, Poker Flat oder Freude am Tanzen erfreuen sich weltweit großer Beliebtheit und geniessen den Ruf als Floorburner und Sammlerstücke. Bei seinen Tracks als Soulphiction huldigt er der deeperen Auslegung der House Schule und definiert diese jedesmal aufs neue.
Lange gewünscht, endlich bekommen! Im Eden freuen wir uns auf ein aufregendes DJ-Set und lassen uns stilsicher in die House, Techno und Discowelt des Moniseur Jackmate verführen!

Lilli Berlin - Ostberlin Wahnsinn

1980 gründete die Schauspielerin Uschi Lina gemeinsam mit Jürgen Barz die Band; Lina nannte sich daraufhin Lilli Berlin. Neben Lilli Berlin (Gesang) waren Manfred Opitz (Keyboard, vorher bei „Metropolis“) und Harald Grosskopf (Schlagzeug) Mitglieder der Band. Die Texte stammten von Lillis späteren Ehemann Jürgen Barz. Auf einigen Produktionen (ab 1982) wirkten Frank Lüdecke (Saxophon), Gerry Bowen (Trompete) und Jürgen Scheele (Trompete) mit. Die Single True Love war ein Duett mit Jürgen Zeltinger. Lilli Berlin ist heute Modemacherin.

Mateo and Matos - The No Props E.P.

This is a valuable one, at least sometimes and I was lucky to get it for cheap quite a while ago now. Everything about this record is so nineties. It was produced by Mateo & Matos(having numerous releases in the 90ies) and it came out on Henry Street Music which had its heydays in the mid nineties, bestowed by the usual suspects from that era like Kenny Dope, Dj Sneak and Armand van Helden.
The same is true for the music! John Mateo and Eddie Matos are using the "disco sample and loop based" house formula(which was big at that time) and convert it much better than many of the other releases from that period.

A worth having and worth listening record!
Ask for more tunes on this wax and i'll be happy giving you what you want!

Ok guys, this one will be very special for us. We will pay tribute to two of our most beloved locations on Saturday night. Kradhalle is "THE" place in our hearts and the Paradise Garage(which will be the theme of the night) was one of the biggest inspiration sources for Bernd Karners and bleepgeeks' musical direction.
Bernd Karner from the legendary and influental Heimelektro Ulm label is the perfect guy to lead us through the night with extra selected pearls from his huge record collection.
He is an extraordinary dj and a former ulm visionary, who established and carried Heimelektro Ulm Records in the end of mid nineties till the early years after turn of the millenium. Many artists took their place on the booth in Ulm during this period, ongoing from Hans Nieswandt, Autechre, Move D, Dmx Krew and Monolake to Dj Spooky, Mouse on Mars and many others...
He wasn't able to play out at our Marco Passarani date due to sickness but now he is even in more joyful expectation!

And as Bernd Karner said:

"late 70ties to early 90ties: how it all started - a journey from funk/soul and rare grooves to disco, to house and garage - a homage to Larry Levan and the other heroes of the early days..."

Whenever i've got an musical US-boogie-overload i mentally escape to our neighbouring country France. Loads of funky stuff has been produced there until today. Here we have a great and clean production from Bernard Guyvan from 1984, doing raps and rhymes what i would call the forerunner of French-Hip-Hop with caution. Russians and Chess and Music

Russians and Chess fit together without a doubt. Garry Kasparov has been the chess world champion since 1985, when he won the title at the age of 22. In 1997, during a historical chess challenge that made headlines all over the world, he defeated IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer.



The Russian State's Label "Melodia" dropped in 1986 the "Group Krug", which picked out Kasparov as a theme for a track on their Album "Way". That quite syntesysed track sticks out in the rest of the rocksongs from the lp. Do the Pawns Move!

Jeffrey Sfire’s introduction to the underground dance scene and illegal warehouse parties of Detroit occurred at the age of 15. This escape from suburban high society led him to some of the city’s most talented DJs and musicians, who soon exposed him to a new culture of creative riches. Learning by example, Sfire’s taste and skills as a DJ developed naturally and he soon began playing out at parties, clubs and sleazy gay afterhours, usually entering covertly through back doors or with a fake ID. At the age of 18, a move to Chicago exposed Sfire to a whole other side of dance music history, including the Italo Disco and High Energy sounds of the 1980s. He spent afternoons digging through record store crates, meeting retired DJs and developing his musical palette. Having held numerous club residencies, he regularly plays in LA, Detroit, Chicago, and New York, consistently offering a finely-tuned selection of Italo Disco, 80’s Music, House, High Energy, New Disco and Electro.

We are so happy to have him playing for bleepgeeks!

motherland - doesnt really matter

Our friends of the band motherland from berlin have done a new music video for their song "doesnt really matter". The band was established by the terrific beat composer Samuel Long from Manchester in late 2007 if i'm not mistaken. They originally appeared as a triumvirate existing of the two singers Marcella + Sabine Gottfried and Samuel behind the machines but by now they found their ideal formation with Matthew Lutz-Kino from New York entering them as an artistic performer and vocalist.
Clever beatprogramming, coming out sometimes lo-fi and heart-rendingly vintage, catchy voices by Marcella + Sabine and a stunning stage performance come into my mind when thinking about motherland.

What this? "BOOGIE RECORDS"? Moreover, a production by Patrick Adams with a Mix Version by Tony Humphries? Wow, the great cover! What's going on??? Boogietunes Musik? GEMA? No year of release on the label! OBSCURE!!!???... The collectors hand began to prickle!!!! ....
But calm down. It's just the german issue of a great but lost boogish dancefloorstarter which has been released in the UK and US before in 1984. I found it today at the flewmarket in "Wäschenbeuren", far away from Ulm, what is definitely is the most obscure thing to me :). Anyway, 100% bleepgeeks recommendation on this!
