# Small Talk : Sound Circus Ulm
Siegfried ‚Siggi’ Dehmke & Martin Lindner sind die Betreiber des legendären „Sound Circus“ in der Frauenstrasse 40 in Ulm. Liebhaber der guten alten Schallplatte und CD finden hier Second Hand- und Neuware in einem gut gegliederten Sortiment. Ein Smalltalk für Zwischendurch oder der Austausch von Neuigkeiten über die Musikszene ist im Laden selbstverständlich. Deswegen gleich ran an den Speck, um ein wenig aus dem Nähkastchen geplaudert zu bekommen…
Hallo Siggi und Martin…
1) Was ist damals eigentlich passiert damit ihr zwei in Ulm unbedingt einen Plattenladen aufmachen wolltet?
Für uns war und ist Musik das Grösste, so haben wir ohne richtig nachzudenken einfach angefangen.
2) Der ursprüngliche Laden war ja nicht in der Frauenstrasse 40. Wo seid Ihr früher ansässig gewesen und wie/wann kam es zum Umzug?
Wir waren zuerst 2 Jahre in der Kornhausgasse, dann gings in die Frauenstr. 42 für 11 Jahre um dann ins Nachbargebäude 40,wo wir jetzt 8 Jahre sind.
3) Mit welchen Kriterien habt ihr damals eure Ware bezogen? Es gab ja damals kein Vorhören „im Internet“ oder dergleichen, um etwaig abzuschätzen, was in ein Sortiment passen könnte bzw. ob es sich verkaufen lässt. Was hat sich entsprechend zu heute bei euch in der Arbeitsweise geändert?
Bis auf unsere Secondhand Abteilung die wir schon immer pflegen, waren wir früher ein klassischer Indie Laden, d.h.wir haben in jedem Musikbereich mit kleinen Vertrieben und Labels zusammengearbeitet. Sich informieren war früher ein vielfaches komplizierter als heute, das hat über Presse ein postalisches Indienetzwerk sowie über Verteter funktioniert. Heute arbeiten wir zwar immer noch mit kleinen Vertrieben zusammen aber auch mit internationalen Grosshändlern, was es uns möglich macht fast jede erschienene Platte weltweit zu besorgen.
4) Ich komme zu Euch in den Laden und suche eine bestimmte Platte/CD, ihr habt sie aber leider nicht und kriegt sie auch nicht her. Wie macht ihr mich trotzdem glücklich?
Wir empfehlen dir was anderes tolles und wenn das nicht hilft gibt’s Kaffee.
5) Welche Platte hört Ihr gern, wenn ihr in der Badewanne liegt, und warum?
M: Diverse Jazz/Soul LPs weil das Wasser bei der heissen Musik länger warm bleibt.
S: Ich bade nicht.
6) Nach so einer langen Zeit im gemeinsamen Geschäft kennt man sich vermutlich in- und auswendig. Was für Macken hat Siggi/Martin?
M. Sigi ist ein grossartiger Mensch.
S: Martin auch.
7) Was war das ulkigste seit langem, was euch im Laden passiert ist?
Wir sind in Süddeutschland hier gibt’s nix zu lachen.
8) Stellt euch vor, eure persönliche Platten –und CD-Sammlung würde bei einem Brand flöten gehen. Was macht ihr?
M: Sollte mein Selbstmordversuch scheitern von vorne anfangen.
S: Ausrasten.
9) Ich stehe genau vor eurem Laden, um etwas Geld mit „Musikmachen“ auf der Straße zu verdienen. Mit meinem Instrument mache ich aber schreckliche Geräusche weil ich absolut nicht spielen kann, bin aber überzeugt ich hätte es drauf und lasse mich weder von euch noch anderen beirren oder wegtreiben. Was macht Ihr?
Wir nehmen es auf und versuchen es als E Musik zu verkaufen.
10) Ihr habt schon viele Plattenläden in Ulm und drum herum leider sterben sehen müssen. Stellt euch vor, genau dem Sound Circus gegenüber würde ein „Megastore“ aufmachen mit einem Platten- und CD-Sortiment, dass sich die Balken biegen. Wie reagiert Ihr?
Nachdem wir ungefähr eine Badewanne vollgeheult haben, packen wir die chinesischen Würgehölzer aus und versuchen den ersten 24 Stunden Plattenladen aufzumachen.

Bilgeri & Judith - She's a break dancer
Move your feet to the break dance beat! "She's a breakdancer" from Bilgeri & Judith is a production done in Vienna (i suppose so because of the contact address on the cover) by Reinhold Bilgeri, a famous austrian rock'n'roll musician and serious filmmaker, litterateur, professor in geography, philosophy, german and psychology. Bilgeri became famous in 1981 when he dropped the cool sounding dance track "Video Life".
In 1984 he made some joking stuff. Extraordinary haircuts, breakdance (nonsense) sounding and vocals makes this definitely to an obscure (trash) winner! Thumbs up! OK von Musica in Austria!

sa.21.11.09 - bleepgeeks @ Eden with DJ RAHAAN (Jisco Music/Chicago)
The bleepgeeks crew feels very blessed to welcome undergroud disco legend Dj Rahaan from Chicago. As part of the threesome-axis Berlin, Dresden and Ulm, we managed to get Rahaan to Germany for the first time!
First of all, Rahaan is a dj from Chicago. What makes him so special, is his ability to constantly create a huge amount of energy that is focused on the dance, on creating a dense environment, where the single record becomes much more than one song mixed into another, the music communicates with the dancer and turns the crowd into the center of the party.
But before Rahaan made his presence on the global dance floor, Rahaan was playing his music from his cassette tapes with his dance crew called the Chuck Brothers. He then moved to the state of Wisconsin, whereby he started to grow a serious collection of disco and house records. In 1996 Rahaan moved back to Chicago started hanging out with his old friends, forming the reunion of the Chuck Brothers once again.
Schooled in the inspiring tradition of DJs in Chicago he absorbed the mad creativity of Ron Hardy and the sensitive taste of Frankie Knuckles, he shared a common passion for crazy disco records and the art of djing with similar minded chicago heads like Sadar Bahar and others…
During the 90’s Rahaan was building up his reputation as one of Chicago’s finest Disco/House DJ, playing at a hot club called “The Spot” and the infamous loft parties with Mr.Bill, Pee Wee and friends. This opened the door for Rahaan to perform on guest spots for Sisterz of Vision and Soul In The Hole club nights, followed by a residency “Budda Lounge” – one of Chicago’s best nightclubs.

In all the mixes he shows his musical diversity – playing around with amazing soulful disco, pulling deep unknown album cuts, making disco classics sound like u never heard `em before, pumping up some jackin house tracks or playing obscure european disco-not-disco. All the time u can hear the passion and originality of „the sounds of Rahaan“ – the real human touch!
On the release front, he recently shared a few of his much appreciated home-made disco edits on labels like Jisco Music, KAT and Stillove4music. Deep in the tradition of the fierce edits a la Ron Hardy – Rahaan makes disco edits sound like jacking house music!
Lately he’s been busy touring the whole world, having literally killed dancefloors in Japan, Australia, Amsterdam, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, England and throughout America, but his journeys never brought him to Germany. This is gonna change!
Our favourite club eden will be heated and the bleepgeeks dj's will warm up things before Rahaan will taker over for extended music pleasures.

First of all, Rahaan is a dj from Chicago. What makes him so special, is his ability to constantly create a huge amount of energy that is focused on the dance, on creating a dense environment, where the single record becomes much more than one song mixed into another, the music communicates with the dancer and turns the crowd into the center of the party.
But before Rahaan made his presence on the global dance floor, Rahaan was playing his music from his cassette tapes with his dance crew called the Chuck Brothers. He then moved to the state of Wisconsin, whereby he started to grow a serious collection of disco and house records. In 1996 Rahaan moved back to Chicago started hanging out with his old friends, forming the reunion of the Chuck Brothers once again.
Schooled in the inspiring tradition of DJs in Chicago he absorbed the mad creativity of Ron Hardy and the sensitive taste of Frankie Knuckles, he shared a common passion for crazy disco records and the art of djing with similar minded chicago heads like Sadar Bahar and others…
During the 90’s Rahaan was building up his reputation as one of Chicago’s finest Disco/House DJ, playing at a hot club called “The Spot” and the infamous loft parties with Mr.Bill, Pee Wee and friends. This opened the door for Rahaan to perform on guest spots for Sisterz of Vision and Soul In The Hole club nights, followed by a residency “Budda Lounge” – one of Chicago’s best nightclubs.

Disqö Harmony: Center Stage - Never
One of the painstaking disco-producers was Patrick Adams. He dropped thousands of titles with more or lesser success on different labels with several projects, and is doing many stuff still today. One thing's clear: He has a unique style of harmonies in his music.
In 1980, the disco-era almost vanished. Below this text, we have some last shouts from the disco-influencing label "Prelude", which became also relevant for dance-music during the 80's. The A-Side is a heavyweight harmonytune produced by, guess who, chief Patrick Adams as one of his projects "Center Stage". Along on this project we have a super-classy disco B-Side "Are you ready" produced by Christine Wiltshire, which was also a singer on some of the Patrick Adams productions like "Musique". I suppose she was singing on both sides of the record because she seemed to be involved in the whole project. This record came out on Prelude Records Canada only and was probably never released in the US.
